Reception learned all about Eric Carlyle, Year 1 learned all about David Walliams and Year 2 learned all about J.K Rowling and Harry Potter!

Throughout the week, children completed a range of reading activities. In Year 2, Hagrid’s hut appeared and the children designed and created many different types of ‘Fantastic beasts’ for the children to look after. In Year 1, the children described ‘The World’s worst children’ and were able to explain how Wren children weren’t like them at all!! In Reception children learned all about the lifecycle of a caterpillar and how the Hungry caterpillar turned into a beautiful butterfly!

An incredible book competition was held where many children wrote their own stories at home! We had poetry books, story books and even fact books. The winners included a pop up joke book, a story about the great fire of London with characters from Harry Potter and a dinosaur fact book. Finally we held our wonderful dress up day parade (delayed slightly due to the weather!). All the parents and children arrived dressed as their favourite book character and walked the catwalk with pride, waving to their mums and dads and bravely speaking into the microphone. After that, the reading rally commenced where teachers and sixth formers ran around reading snippets of their favourite books to each class. The children were inspired to try out and read new books they had heard during the rally.

Our school displays now show how much our children love reading and how much ‘We love book week!’
