Year 2 Tower of London Trip Posted: 23/01/26
As part of their history topic on The Great Fire of London, Year 2 enjoyed an exciting and educational trip to the Tower of London. The visit offered a fantastic opportunity for the children to deepen their understanding of London’s past and explore one of the city’s most important historical sites.
During the day children took part in an engaging workshop where they learned about life in London in 1666 and how the Great Fire changed the city forever. They explored how buildings were constructed at the time, why the fire spread so quickly and how Londoners rebuilt their homes and lives afterwards. The children were fascinated by the real-life stories of people who witnessed the fire and they asked brilliant questions throughout the session.
The visit to the Tower grounds helped the children see first hand how London has changed since the 17th Century. They were particularly intrigued to learn that the Tower itself survived the Great Fire due to its strong stone walls, even while much of the surrounding city burned. Staff were impressed by how well the children connected what they saw to their classroom learning.
A highlight for many was seeing the Crown Jewels, which left the children wide eyed with wonder. They were amazed by the dazzling crowns, sceptres and jewels on display and staff were impressed by the children’s curiosity and excellent behaviour throughout.
