Year 3 - Beech Class

Beech Class News

Spring Term 2022

During the Spring Term of Year 3, we have been learning about forces and magnets in our Science lessons.  We performed an amazing experiment using the magnets where we tested various items, such as tin cans and paper clips, to see which would be magnetic and why this might be. We used teamwork to investigate what would be magnetic and considered what would make our experiment a fair test.

During our Wows and Wellbeing, we linked our wonderful English book, How to train your Dragon, to our Mindfulness Drawing Workshops and created wonderful sketches of Toothless!

Spring Term 2020

For the majority of children we were teaching remotely. This involved a daily English and Maths live lesson as well as one other live lessons focusing on a  range of other topics such as French, RE, History, Geography and Science. We also celebrated Wellbeing Wednesday where all children tried to spend the day off the screen focusing on their wellbeing. We are so proud of all families and children for their resilience during this time.

Some wonderful work was completed during this time.

Autumn Term 2020

Beech class have had a fantastic term. The children have been working hard in all subjects.

In English, the children have been reading the book The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. They have made story maps in talk for writing, written sustained stories and recounts. The children have impressed us by using a range of grammar from fronted adverbials to expanded noun phrases.  In Maths, the children have been leaning about times table and division facts.  The children are growing in confidence with their 3, 4 and 8 times tables.  In Science, the children have been learning about animals and humans, looking at how they obtain food and the food groups needed for a healthy lifestyle.  In RE, the children have been learning about People of God and what it is like to be one of God’s people.  The children looked at the story of Noah’s Ark, thinking about the covenant God made with Noah which inspired the children to explore covenants we make with others.

We are really impressed with the children’s perseverance, resilience and positive attitude to learning.

Summer Term 2019

Beech class have been learning all about the Romans. We’ve learnt lots of interesting things and we even got to visit the Verulamium where we handled artefacts and tried to work out what they were used for. One of our highlights was seeing the enormous mosaics and the hypocaust.
