World Book Week Posted: 3/03/16

We began the week learning all about Julia Donaldson. We found out what books she had written and completed a range of activities.

Book Week (Childrens Books)We began the week learning all about Julia Donaldson. We found out what books she had written and completed a range of activities. One of the most popular activities was making a Gruffalo mask and acting out the story!

Our topic is also fairy tales and a castle grew in each class. A beanstalk has even grown outside!! I wonder who is going to live at the top? The children have loved planting beans and we hope some of them are magic beans too!

Each class decorated their door to represent their favourite Julia Donaldson book. Acorn class made ‘Monkey Puzzle’ and Conker class made ‘The smartest Giant in town’. Great work everybody!

We held a book competition where I was blown away by the incredible array of books made! We had picture books, replicas of famous stories, children’s own stories, popup books and we even had a book which turned into a light saber!

Book Week (Y9 Reading)Some Year 9 students also made books which they came to read to the children. It was wonderful to see the older children become storytellers and the Reception children so engaged with their books. These Year 9 children then came to judge the book competition and chose our winners! We couldn’t narrow it down to just 3 winners though; we ended up with 6 winners!!!

Every day all the children and parents have had the chance to guess the book on display! Each teacher has prepared a wonderful display full of clues! Did you guess them all?

On Thursday everybody dressed up and took part in our parade. Everyone looked so fantastic and I couldn’t believe the effort made by all the children and staff! It really was wonderful! I thought the children were so brave and to walk down the catwalk and speak into the microphone. Well done everyone and thank you parents for your support!

We ended the celebrations with a Reading Rally. Surprise readers turned up every 10 minutes to read a section of their favourite book. Can you tell your parents which book was your favourite?
