World Class schools Posted: 21/10/16

We had the most incredible event happen at school on Thursday. 100 students from all over the country were completing an assessment day trying to earn the status of being a World Class school. Wren Academy achieved this in 2014.

They were given 6 areas to reform and refurbish and the results have been outstanding. Between the Reception classes, they were asked to renovate our group room into a luxury reading space for the reception children. Our white walls have been transformed into 3 different themes. We have a display all about Space including super facts and images. We have a display about Gruffalo and Zog surrounded by green trees and we have a wall which looks like it is under the sea with a gigantic octopus! I know the children are going to love to read in there!

In our reception playground, we asked the students to create an outdoor zone using our learning superheroes as inspiration. We now have a giant Resilient Rosie, Reflective Robbie and Resourceful Rocco and we have a wonderful table and benches with Reciprocal  Ruby and Elmer painted on top. We are hoping this will always remind the children what super learning powers they can use to help them!

In our second playground the children were asked to create some boards for the fences which can help the children when they are in Year 2 and Year 3. We have one board which has a range of wooden letters, these spin to make our values of hope, forgiveness, compassion and friendship. This can help children with remembering our core values as well as their spelling! Another board has been made with a  giant game for the children to play and the final board in a display of all what Wren represents. I know in the future the children are going to love using these boards.

Outside the front of Wren, you can see the final three transformations. The area has been completely decorated to make a colourful and inspiring outdoor space for the children to use.

We have had a sensory garden created, a planting area created and a lovely seating area decorated. The children are going to love being able to use this space at lunchtimes and for extra learning time.

All the students worked incredibly hard to ensure it was all finished by 3pm so or parents could visit and see the results. We are very grateful to all their hard work. What was so wonderful is all of the children from Reception and Year 1 were able to join in. All the handprints you can see were done by our children, they helped to plant the flowers and herbs and they helped to make the windmills for the sensory garden.

What a wonderful experience with long-lasting results!
