Our Forest School was set up in 2019 and is based on the school grounds

The Forest School Leader provides challenging and enjoyable experiences across all areas of learning and development for each child in this natural learning environment. Learning is achieved through playing and exploring, as well as the teaching of skills and knowledge, with a balance of adult led and child-initiated activities. The sessions can be linked to learning in the classroom and the approach is used to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) National Curriculum.

Our Forest School was set up in 2019 and is based on the school grounds; it is an on-going development, with children helping to establish it. Our Forest School consists of a small, wooded area attached to a meadow. Evaluations of the impact of Forest School on children at Wren Academy has highlighted improved confidence, social skills, communication, motivation and concentration, physical skills, knowledge, understanding and respect for the natural environment.

Conkers and Acorns enjoyed their first session of Forest School. We talked about the four seasons and discussed the various signs in nature that help us identify what season we could be in. The children were great at describing our current season - Autumn. They talked about the leaves changing colour and falling as well as how the weather becomes windier and rainier. The children loved our Forest School storybook called Seasons Come, Seasons Go Tree, by Brittany Teckentrup. They also enjoyed making natural art with autumnal objects and using their senses to describe natural found objects, as well as exploring our Forest School site during their Autumn hunt with Ms Gill.
