Since March 2013 the government has provided extra funding to improve provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools in England – The Primary PE and Sport Premium.
The four objectives of the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding are:
- To increase participation levels in sport at recreational and competitive levels in to order promote healthy activity lifestyles that will be maintained into adolescence.
- To improve the quality of existing PE teaching through continuing professional development in PE for generalists, so that all primary pupils improve their health, skills and physical literacy, whilst having broader exposure to a range of sports.
- To increase the quality of initial teacher training in PE and sport, and to promote PE specialisation in the primary level workforce.
- Schools understand and value the benefits of high quality PE and sport, including its use as a tool for whole school improvement.
At Wren, we really value the importance of Physical Education and healthy lifestyles. As an all through school, the PE specialist teachers from the secondary phase teach all of our PE lessons ensuring excellent quality for every single child. This means we can use the Sports premium funding to enhance this and develop the provision for all children.
