Year 5 Chocolate Workshop Posted: 12/10/22
Willow and Ash Class enjoyed an engaging and tasty chocolate workshop, with the chocolatier who invented the caramel rocky bar.
Highlights were trying chocolate, holding our nose to eat half and eating the other half without, and realising how linked our sense of smell and taste are. Other highlights were creating our own chocolate treat, by deciding what should be included in the chocolate itself and what decoration should go on top.
Aside from chocolate tasting, we learned about cocoa farming and why it happens near the equator, along with the ingredients of white, milk and dark chocolate. We also found out about the history of chocolate, with the Mayans first introducing it as a drink and the Aztecs giving it as an offering to their god.
As our topic continues in school, we shall be taking part in a DT project to create a suitable chocolate bar wrapper, before having another try at making our own.
