T- Rex Workshop Posted: 27/03/23

This year the children were very fortunate to meet Thomas the Gorilla.

This year the children were very fortunate to meet Thomas the Gorilla. Thomas visited our school to share his story about the negative effects that humans have had on the environment and the habitat he lives in. Humans have cut down trees, caused fires and used land for more farming.

His story was thought provoking and encouraged all our children from Reception to Year 6 to think about what they can do to make a difference for our world to be a better place. The children all made a pledge to make a small change within their lives to help not only Thomas but to ensure our world is a greener place to live in.  One of our children in Year One was so inspired and wanted to help Thomas that they have now adopted a gorilla and of course, the gorilla has been called Thomas!

The assembly gave the children the chance to give Thomas a cuddle, play games with him and they also took part in a green screen workshop. In the workshop the children learnt ICT skills to create their own short movie.  The children created an action to show they were running away from an animal and then with the help of Teach Rex the background setting and animals were added to the movie. There was a special showing at the end of the workshop to watch all the short clips created.

We would like to say a big thank you to Friends of Wren who funded the workshop.
