Easter Church Service Posted: 1/04/24
On Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 March we held our annual Primary Easter services at Christ Church, North Finchley.
The Revd Dave Walker, vicar of Christ Church, began the service with a welcome and opening prayer. The children had been working hard practising Easter related songs with Miss Juckes and it was wonderful to hear them singing along to the music as they sang three songs during the service.
After the first song, we thought further about the Easter story by looking at some of the people who appeared in the Easter story and how they might have felt. In the KS1 service, which was led by Miss Brennan, while the faith council led the KS2 service. Students were encouraged to imagine themselves as the characters and were invited to mime various actions to show how the people might have felt.
The Revd Dave and Kelly (a member of Christ Church) helped us to think further about the Easter story by re-telling the story of Cleopas. He, along with another friend, had met the risen Jesus on the road to Emmaus. The Revd Dave was frustrated because he had been trying to make a cake, but it had gone wrong. However, when it was turned upside down it became a dome jelly. He used this illustration to explain how the sadness of Jesus’ death was turned upside down when he rose again. Cleopas and his friend felt sad about the events that had happened in the previous days, but they were filled with joy once they realised that the person they were talking to was the risen Jesus.
As part of the service, students representing different classes read prayers that they had thoughtfully written. We prayed for our family and friends, our school and local community, our world and the children we sponsor through Compassion UK – Buteme, Jesus and Queen.
We are very grateful to the Revd Dave Walker for hosting us and sharing with us. We are looking forward to our next service at Christ Church.
