Thank You

16 July 2015

I wanted to say thank you for attending our event yesterday. It was wonderful to see the children playing, making friends and hearing them so excited about starting school. I really hope you enjoyed yourself as well. If you were unable to attend, please do not worry. Email me and I am happy to update you about which class your child will be in and any other information you require.

Leaflets and information

I have uploaded the leaflet about preparing your child for school, as well as the information regarding their first topic and Building Learning Power so you can read and refer to it over the summer holidays. You can find this on the right of this page.

Primary motto

Our motto at Wren Academy is ‘Inspiring creative minds, growing extraordinary learners’. I believe this fully describes our mission to enable children to become lifelong learners. You will find a link on the right to our ‘Wren Academy’s calm code’. This gives children the golden rules they will be expected to follow here at Wren. Please discuss these with your child over the summer as this will again support them with their transition into primary school.

Below I have included information from some frequently asked questions to ensure you have clarification.

Building work

Many of you asked about the building and I can confirm that everything is on schedule. I will be taking more photos from the middle of August so look out for updates on here. The team are working incredibly hard and I know the new building is going to be fantastic.

Drop off and pick up zone

Unfortunately there have been some delays with the drop off zone and it will not be open until November.

You will be able to walk your child through the entrance on Woodhouse Road where you will meet your class teacher and teaching assistant in the meeting area. In the mornings they will be there from 8.35 – 8.45am and in the afternoons you can collect your child from 3.20pm. Your child will be considered late after 3.30pm and will be taken back to the school.

Involvement for parents

At Wren Academy, your involvement as parents is crucial. I have organised for you to have either a curriculum meeting or a parents meeting every half term. We will also have a coffee morning for parents in September where you will learn about the curriculum and then visit your child in their class to see how they have settled in.

In the Early Years we are going to be using an online assessment profile for your child. This means that when the class teachers take observations, photos or videos of your child learning they can upload it to a secure online profile. You will be given access to this profile so you can see what your child has been doing in class. You will also be asked to comment on your child’s development so you are contributing to their assessment profile. More information about this will follow in September.

Friends of Wren

Having an active and innovative parents and teachers association is going to be really important here at Wren Academy. Most of you gave your email address when you signed in yesterday which is fantastic. This means that Friends of Wren will contact you in September about our first meeting. The more parents that get involved, the more events we will be able to hold, such as Christmas fayres, summer fetes, discos and other fundraising activities for the children. Please support us with this.

Have a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 3 September at 8.35am. Remember, you can join your child in class until 9.30am before returning to collect them at 1pm.

I am delighted you have chosen Wren Academy!
